Despite the 2 month hiatus, I will still continue to update - eventually.
Some factors that have caused this delay is: laziness, needing to reformat and at the moment my music is more important (bass player for 2 bands). I haven't even processed my photos from NZ!
If anyone is in Sydney, come and see Tunnelvision (me) play the Mandarin Club in Pitt St.
Later...

Double Up
2 Albums for the price of one tonight. First up is the Teppanyaki party. Not much to report other than the shots without the flash weren't really usable and it didn't help I got drunk towards the end! - http://picasaweb.google.com.au/jp.scarface/LaurenS24thBirthday The auto white balance seem to go okay in the restaurant. Their also seemed to be a lot of reflection from the flash (shiny metal everywhere). Oh and it was good fun too...
Second album is for Cristian Walls' 1st birthday party from last Saturday. I didn't think it would be that hard to photograph kids (by photograph I mean a memorable shots or poses). It was made even harder with the lack of space - http://picasaweb.google.com.au/jp.scarface/CristianS1stBirthday. I tried to change my perspective during the afternoon, which got most of the lollipop shots. I almost got an awesome shot of two kids separated by a glass door but the girl facing the camera was out of focus. Damn! Better luck next time...

Taronga Zoo
I’d like to make up for my absence (re: laziness). A web album of our trip to Taronga Zoo - http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/jp.scarface/ZooTrip - I managed to squeeze 488 shots that day before the camera died + I used the flash in about 30 of those 488. Pretty good battery life considering I took about 200 the night before!
The ones I have uploaded haven’t really been edited much which is also a plus. Most have been brightened a bit and/or cropped, with a couple sharpened.
I only noticed after the reptiles’ area that the camera was on Centre Weighted metering. I can’t really tell the difference between that and matrix – in these shots anyway so I didn’t really care. I am also quite happy with the AWB. After editing the photos in Picasa I was more inclined to not change the white balance as the camera gives a warm inviting tone as opposed to the cold tone Picasa was giving when using the auto adjusts. My preference anyways…
I gave the camera a good workout during the weekend and it surpassed my expectations. It bodes well for the trip to NZ, although I would still like to get another battery just in case.
I’ll also upload Friday nights (Loz’s birthday party at Tepenyaki) photos when I get time as there were some good action shots.

Amber River
Sorry about the last update, it was posted late and rushed, hence the rambling…
The idea was to show the different depth of fields with different f/stops - I’m hoping the images are in the right order. The blogger composition area is too small trying to arrange 5-6 images in a column.
There was no real conscious decision to arrange the cans that way (it’s just the usual sight that can be seen on my desk). Just to note: George is the guy on the can - the beer mascot, in reference to the last post.
I’ll try to do add a new post tonight – see what happens.

Watch Tower
This one on the left was taken using the Program and matrix metering. Using the full 200mm focal range of the lens. Exposure compensation -0.33.
I can notice a bit of vignetting but I haven't bothered trying to fix it.

A couple of shots taken while walking through the Tech Park at Redfern. The reasonable ones out of a bunch made in 30sec or so.
They have been cropped and enhanced with Google's Picasa. As you can tell, it hasn't really helped! I had the white balance set to cloudy, D'oh...
Definitely will need to look into how to do night time shots - maybe borrow a tripod. Hopefully that will get the correct lighting I am after.
I plan to come up to the Tech Park one weekend and walk around the place, as there are many shots I see potential for.

A New Toy
After buying myself a new Nikon D40, I thought I'd create a blog in order to document the learning progress. It is my hope that I will create some good images and also provide motivation for myself to keep progressing. Here goes...
This first post is basically a test of this thing called blogging and welcome to anyone willing to read my ramblings. So enjoy!
Most of the early images will be tests, as I'm just muck around with the camera settings. This one is the of a few things on my desk. I thought it looked cool so it's the first image to go up.
